3 Things I Love About Nunchucks

Nunchucks is one of the most favorite weapons I have in my collection. I am a small weapon collector, and I have plenty in my arsenal, but this is a special one. 

Also called nunchaku, it is a weapon made of two wooden sticks, and these sticks are connected with rope or chain. There are many things to love about this weapon, but here are the three most significant ones:

1. The History of Nunchucks

History of nunchucks is what I love the most. The history of this small weapon suggests that it is a pure fighting weapon. In fact, it was an agricultural weapon turned into a fighting weapon. 

It originated in China where it served as a tool for reaping crops like wheat and rice. It looked like a flail. Once a Chinese emperor who lost a battle against Mongolians came to assist villagers in the mainland Chinese territory. 

This is where he discovered this flail-like weapon. He adopted it as a fighting weapon and trained his troops with it. They learned to use this weapon and then headed towards Mongolians and battled against them. 

Hence, they used this weapon to defeat the Mongolians and emerged victorious against them. This is the history that Chinese take pride in. Also, this is why I love nunchucks. “A weapon that let Chinese recapture their territory”. 

2. The Nunchucks Movies

There are many movies that include the use of nunchucks. Especially, the movies of Bruce Lee. The people of 1970s and 1980s know how big a star was Bruce Lee. 

He is still popular as one of the all time greats. Most of his movies during that period involved the use of this weapon. Some famous movies include Enter the Dragon. 

Since I am an admirer of Bruce Lee, I love nunchucks just because it appeared in some popular movies.

3. Nunchucks Being a Useful Self Defense Weapon

I love nunchucks because it is an advantageous weapon for self defense. This comes up as a successful weapon to battle the attackers. I have been using it for quite some time. It has allowed me to survive against the attackers many times. 

What I love the most about this weapon is that it provides a longer reach. I mean, I can use it from a distance. It can stay at a safe distance away from the attacker and strike with some force to injure him. A perfect weapon to deal with the attackers!

Police Baton for Self Defense - A Good Idea!

Police baton is no more a weapon for police personnel only. General public is also using this weapon, primarily for self defense. 

Since attackers have started attacking people randomly, it has become necessary to carry a lethal weapon to deal with them. 

So, people have tried using different types of weapons and finally figured out that using a police baton for defense is a great idea. 

Here is how:

i) Extended Reach

A problem with most self defense weapons is that they require the user to get close to the attacker in order to inflict injury. 

There is a lack of reach. Getting closer to the attacker is usually pretty dangerous. 

So, you need to stay at a safe distance away from the attacker. 

On the other hand, baton offers extended reach and allows the user to target the attacker from a great distance. 

Extendable batons are also being used, the length of which can be altered.

There are wooden and steel batons. Steel batons are more powerful, but the wooden batons are also very lethal. In any case, they can inflict severe injuries. 

The aim of any user is to injure the attacker to an extent that he does not get back on his feet early. 

Meanwhile, he can run away and save his life from the attacker. Also, teach him a lesson. 

iii) Easy to Use

Using a police baton for self defense is a great idea because it is easy to use. There are no complicated parts of the weapon. 

It is a simple club and all you need to do is strike the attacker with some force, This is enough to ensure your survival.

The Pros and Cons of Using Nunchucks for Self-defense

The need for self-defense weapons is increasing day by day and people are seen using such a diverse range of products for this purpose. Nunchucks is one of these weapons and are used extensively in martial arts and are used for self-defense as well. Do you know what Nunchucks are? Few people know about them because they can only be used by people who train themselves on using this weapon. Otherwise, it is just useless to others and they will end up hurting themselves instead of their opponent. 

What are Nunchucks?

They are two pieces of metal designed like rods or sticks and are connected to each other with the help of a metallic chain. They are also called Chuka sticks, Nunchaku or karate sticks as they used in Karate as well. They are normally made up of metal but Nunchaku made up of wood, plastic and foam are also available in stores worldwide. Wooden Nunchucks are used mainly for training purposes whereas Nunchaku made up of foam are used mostly in LARP (Live Action Role Play) Event and Cosplay which only allow replica weapons to be carried and ban any real weapons. 

So, wooden, plastic and foam Nunchucks come in handy in such events. However, when it comes to metal Nunchaku, they are the real ones and the dangerous ones as well. This is why they are used in combats and for self-defense as well. Let us have a look at the pros and cons of using Nunchaku for self-defense.

Pros of Using Nunchucks for Self-defense

Nunchucks are quite effective and they are quite dangerous as well. They are the perfect smashing weapons and when the long rod-like sticks of Nunchucks, made up of metal, strike against the bony structure of the human body, they definitely inflict a great amount of damage and injuries. Also, there is a blunt tip on the top of the Chuka sticks which when thrust inside the body of a person inflict major injuries. This will also help you ward off your opponent in a self-defense situation. 

Tricks and Techniques 

Nunchucks can be used in various ways in a self-defense situation. You can use various Nunchaku tricks and techniques to take down your opponent. You can also use these sticks to wrap its chain around the neck of your opponent to choke him/her or trap him/her in any way so you can run off. However, you should make sure that you do not kill the person in the process, otherwise, you will have to face serious criminal charges. 

People train themselves on the art of using Nunchucks by learning different tricks and techniques. The most common technique among them all is the blocking technique which is step one in any self-defense situation and in any combat as well. You must learn how to protect yourself with the weapon you choose to carry with you for self-defense and if this weapon is Nunchaku, then you must master the Blocking technique to protect yourself from the attacks of your opponent. 

Then you must learn how to fight and lay down your assailant so you can get the time to escape the situation. For this, you must learn the striking technique. In this one, you must learn how to strike your opponent and hit properly so that the blow lands right on spot. There are various methods through which this Technique can be performed. 

The first one is the Vertical Up Strike, in which the Chuka sticks are brought down from below and in the upwards direction on the opponent’s body. The second one is the Vertical Down Strike in which these sticks are brought down from above and this type of strike generally gives blows on the head of the person. Then comes the Horizontal strike which is done in the horizontal direction from either the left or right side of the opponent’s body. The last one is the diagonal strike in which the Nunchucks are struck in the diagonal direction. 

2- Cons of Using Nunchucks for Self Defense

The first disadvantage of using Nunchucks for self-defense is that you have to be properly trained on the art of using them. Otherwise, you will just end hurting yourself pretty badly which will just worsen the whole situation. So, you must properly learn how to use Nunchucks before using them against someone. Secondly, Nunchucks are illegal in most of the states of the US because they are very dangerous. 

The third is that these weapons are lethal and very dangerous and can even result in death which will land you in jail only even though you did for own defense. Therefore, try using a non-lethal self-defense weapon to protect yourself. Fourth is that the art of Nunchucks is quite hard to master and require proper attention, determination, and good reflexes as well. 

So, now that you know the pros and cons of using Nunchucks for self-defense, make your decision by weighing both options carefully.
